Summer is around the corner. When it comes
to summer, different kind of ice product would come into your mind. Traveling
in Tainan, you definitely cannot miss mango shelved ice! Before I introduce the
mango shelved ice I have eaten in Taiwan, I would like to clarify the
difference between shelved ice(剉冰) and snow ice(雪花冰). Shelved ice is fragmenting ice into small pieces, and the texture
of it is a little bit hard; on the other hand, snow ice is made by “snow-ice”
machine; it looks creamy and the texture of it is smoothy. Nowadays, many ice
stores serve mango snow ice. In my personal experience, the flavor of mango
snow is not like “real“ mango. Sometimes I even doubt whether they really add
mangoes in snow ice or not. Therefore, I prefer mango shelved ice to mango snow
ice, and today, I would like to introduce the mango shelved ice I have eaten in
Tainan.
Yu Cheng Fruit Shop (裕成水果店)
I went to Yu Cheng Fruit Shop in the first
summer vacation of my freshmen year. The mango shelved ice is traditional, with
shelved at the bottom of the bowl covered by a large number pieces of mango
which are dressed with sweeten condensed milk and konjac(蒟蒻). The most important thing I would
like to mention is the mango sherbet on the top. Unlike the normal
mango-flavored ice cream, I can really enjoy the true fragrance and sweetness
of mango.

Ice Country (冰鄉)
The feature of Ice Country is that it use
different kinds of mangoes to make mango shelved ice. I suppose it includes at
least three kinds of mangoes, including Jing Huang(金煌), Ai Wen(愛文) and Local variety mango(土芒果). The shelved ice is topped off with pieces of Jing Huang and Ai
Wen mangoes. Besides shelved ice, the shop would give you a cup of gooey mango
sauce (I suppose it is made of local variety mango). After you finished all of
the mangoes, you could pour the mango sauce in your bowl to flavor the shelved
ice.

Mango is one of my favorite fruits! I can eat a lot of mangoes during summer lol. It is indeed awesome to have some mango ice in such hot weather. However, compared to shelved ice and snow ice, I personally love ice cream more haha.
回覆刪除The two stores you visited are both very famous in Tainan. Many tourists will definitely pay a visit to these tow stores, but I have never been there before. I especially wanna try the mango ice in Yu Cheng Fruit Shop. Upon seeing the photo, the mango sherbet just caught my eye! It looks so delicious! Perhaps I will try this one next time~~
I love mango too! I think mango and ice are a perfect combination. The mango shelved ice is very suitable for me right now because the hot weather in Tainan is killing me right now so thanks for introducing the stores to me. The mango shelved ice in the Ice Country looks amazing. I hardly see other stores put that much of fruits in the dish so I think it's really worth a try.
